Term Two Learning Behaviours!

Hello Grade Fives!

Our first term is over and you have all been working hard to develop good learning behaviours: listening carefully to lessons and instructions, completing work carefully and completely, checking your work over for errors, preparing for quizzes, and asking for help as needed. Learning behaviours are not about marks, they are things you do, every single day, to help you become a stronger student.

As we move into term two, I would like you to share which learning behaviour(s) you are going to work on particularly hard. In today's response, and in a correct paragraph, please tell me which behaviours you have chosen. If needed, please listen (text-to-speech) to your comment prior to posting it to me.

As always, I look forward to reading your responses. I am very interested in what you are planning to do this term. I will make every effort to help you practice these learning behaviours.

Your Christmas Holiday

Dear Grade Fives!

Today, in your Blog response, I would like you to write a complete paragraph about what you would like to do over your Christmas holidays. In just four short weeks, you will have two weeks to enjoy some well-earned time off.

Remember, even though this is a personal topic, I am still expecting a well-crafted paragraph. To help ensure this, please use spell-check and the checklist very carefully. It is intended to make it easier for you to complete a writing assignment successfully. Take advantage of it.
As usual, I look forward to reading your responses.

Dear Grade Fives!
Today you will not write a Blog response, instead, you will learn more about Remembrance Day. I would like you to visit the following sites. Read through different sections, articles. Remember, if you find the text a bit too challenging, you may use the text-to-speech program. Just remember to do one or two paragraphs at a time. The program has a limit on how many words it is able to read.

Hockey, Band and Project Based Learning

Dear Grade Fives!
Today, in your Blog response, I would like you to write a complete paragraph about what you are learning in hockey, band, or Project Based Learning. Please tell me about something you have learned over the past two months.

Remember to first write your response on your word document, copy and paste a new digital checklist below your blog and then carefully check your paragraph. Reread each line in your checklist carefully to ensure that you have edited your response to the best of your ability before you tick it off on the list. You may also want to listen to your response prior to posting.
As always, I look forward to reading your responses!

Novels You Enjoy

Dear Grade Fives!
From now on, you will first write your blog response in your word document entitled Blogs. You will then use the digital checklist to ensure you have your blog ready for posting. When it is ready, you will copy your blog and post it as usual. You may want to have two windows open side-by-side, one with the blog letter and one being your word document.
I think this week's response will be an easy one. In a paragraph, please tell me what type of novels (fiction books or story books) you like to read. You can tell me about authors, titles, or book genres (adventure, mystery, science fiction etc.) you really enjoy.

As always, I look forward to reading your responses!

Checking Your Writing!

Hello Grade Fives!
As discussed in class, this year you will need to check that each written assignment is ready to be handed in, including your blogs. Today, you will learn to use our digital checklist  prior to posting a blog response.
You will find a word document, of your last blog, in your Documents Folder. You will also find a digital checklist page. I want you to highlight the checklist box, copy it (Ctrl  C), and paste it (Ctrl  V) below your blog paragraph.
You will now reread you blog entry from last week and check that it is ready for marking (you need to use the  to show that you have checked that line). While you work, please save your word document frequently.
Grade Fives, this may seem like a lot of extra work for you; however, by grade five, all of your writing should conform to basic writing conventions. This checklist reminds you what these conventions include. In a couple of weeks, this checking process will become automatic. As a result, you will become an even more effective communicator.

Salmon Life Cycle

Hello Grade Fives!

Last week you discussed renewable resources, specifically the salmon. On Friday, we go to Stellako to see the salmon spawn. In preparation, I would like you to view the following video: Life Cycle of Salmon and then listen to the Salmon Life Cycle Song.

I would then like you to write a short paragraph describing the salmon life cycle. Ensure that all sentences begin with a capital and end with a period. Please use your best guess spelling for unknown words.

I look forward to reading your paragraphs.

The Way You Learn

Salutations Grade Fives!

Welcome once again to our class blog! I would like you to answer three questions, in complete sentences and in as much detail as possible: 1) Which subject is easiest for you, why?
2) Which subject is hardest for you, why? 3) Do you learn best when you 'see', 'hear', or 'do' new things? You may also choose to tell me anything else that you think is important for me to know about your learning. I look forward to reading your responses. Love, Mrs. French

Change

Hello Grade Fives!

Welcome to our class blog! This year we are going to be doing a lot of journaling. Sometimes, you will journal in your Journal Notebook, and sometimes you will journal in this blog. Today, you will complete your first journal entry using our class blog.

I would like you to write about change. You may write about any change you are aware of. For example, you may choose to write about change in yourself, change in your life, or even change in the seasons.
